Stalker Title Sequence - W/ Nidhi Srikanth
Motion /// Typography /// Film
Description:
This project presents a redesigned title sequence for Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker (1979), a film without an intentionally designed opening. The sequence combines typography with original footage to reflect the film’s atmospheric pacing, symbolism, and thematic focus. Visual emphasis is placed on overgrown natural environments and decaying man-made structures, with typography alternating between Roman English and Cyrillic Russian to reference the film’s language and reinforce narrative tension.
Process & Learning:
The project involved collaborative research and development, including moodboarding, visual analysis, and the creation of an animated storyboard and animatic. Original footage was shot to align with the film’s visual language and thematic concerns. A key challenge was coordinating assets across collaborators, which was addressed through clear role definition, organized asset management, and consistent communication. The process strengthened skills in collaboration, research-driven design, project organization, and collective decision-making.
